Managing master data, in particular technical objects and bills of materials within an ERP system such as SAP R/3, has always been critical to the effectiveness and efficiency of maintenance & service business processes. Compiling and maintaining bills of material for large component inventories has proven critical in facilitating rapid and accurate work-planning and execution.

Mincom LinkOne opens up a host of new, exciting and extremely beneficial opportunities by allowing bills of material to be viewed graphically.

LinkOne is an electronic publishing and cataloging software system. The product is unique in its ease of use, simple user interface, powerful search capabilities, and "drill-down" graphical navigation features. It integrates into SAP through LinkOne for mySAP. This provides unparalleled functionality in terms of creating and maintaining graphical bills of material, as well as navigating through and selecting spare parts via a graphical parts book directly from R/3. It supports a range of distribution options, from diskettes and CD, to LAN and Internet or Intranet.

Exceptional productivity improvements have been reported form organizations embracing this new technology. LinkOne for mySAP has been developed by Wessendorf Software and Consulting GmbH as a value-add solution for SAP R/3. The LinkOne for mySAP mimics the LinkOne components, ie the Publisher and Viewer component.

LinkOne for mySAP: Publisher

This value-add solution uses R/3 data structures, such as I-Base, bills of material (BOMs), functionalocation and equipment structures and MPL's in combination with material masters and documents via DMS to produce LinkOne catalogs. The illustrated parts catalog structure and content is taken from SAP and the book-building and hotpointing processes are managed and change history tracked from within R/3.

This value-add solution allows any published LinkOne catalog to be viewed from an R/3 maintenance or service order or via an R/3 material search help. Components can be selected directly from the LinkOne catalog and transferred to R/3.

The viewer for R/3 operates both on LinkOne catalogs published by equipment manufacturers or third parties, as well as those created using the Publisher Server for R/3. The configuration alternatives allow the automatic conversion of component numbers from manufacturer's part numbers to internal R/3 numbers. Non-cataloged components are converted as directly procured non-stock components.

The latest release of LinkOne is Web-Enabled (LinkOne Webview) and supports real eCommerce procurement by navigating a Captive Web Site through LinkOne, making selections and passing a "selection List" back to R/3 using a range of configured conversion rules.
